Motorcycle performance starts with the right oil

The motorcycle is a popular mode of transportation in Asia Pacific, making up 78% of the world’s motorcycle population. This means 3 out of every 4 motorcycles are in Asia. And these bikes are mostly located in India, Vietnam, Indonesia & Thailand.

In 2018, almost 35 million bikes were sold in the South Asia region. The numbers are high but user knowledge on motorcycle maintenance is low. Most motorcyclists turn to workshops and professional mechanics for advice on oil change.

The core of a motorcycle has 3 parts: the engine, gear and clutch. They are placed inside the same encasing and lubricated by the same engine oil.

Motorcycle engine functions differently from engine of a passenger car and this is why, it is essential to use oils formulated specially for them.

“On average, 80% customers at workshops ask mechanics to recommend oils for their motorcycles. Motorcycle oils are formulated to protect engine and gears. High quality oils from trusted brands are excellent because they can increase engine reliability.”

For a motorcycle, its engine operates at twice the speed and power density of a normal car’s, where the temperature can get very high.

Quality motorcycle oils can withstand extreme heat better. And in this harsh environment, the oil needs to flow well in order to help remove excessive heat from the engine.

Power generated by the engine gets transmitted through the gears to the wheel. The high engine speed puts an enormous stress on all the moving parts. Quality motorcycle oils form a strong lubricating film, which helps to protect the gears and reduce wear and tear.

“Choosing the right oil can make a big difference to the engine. For example, even if you forget to drain oil and run beyond your usual interval, a well formulated, high quality oil by a trusted brand can still protect the engine and give you peace of mind. When you use a low quality oil, it can lead to problems such as engine not running smoothly or getting overheated easily.”

Infineum’s unique additive technology has demonstrated high clutch friction performance, graded MA2, even in extended JASO clutch test. This ensures consistent friction between the clutch plates beyond the standard test duration.

“Using the right motorcycle oil helps the clutch system work well. You need the oil to provide enough friction between clutch plates so that it will not cause slippage and power loss to the bike. Different brands and oil types will show noticeable performance differences due to quality of additive used. High quality good oils give you better lubrication and smoother engines that last longer. This is how you can achieve great riding experience.”
